My systems have been flaky here the past couple of weeks since they had problems with the servers. I thought everything was alright (sort of) because I've been sending and receiving work off and on through out the outages. Since yesterday I can access the website, upload completed work, But I now have about 30 on this system that says its ready to report but I keep getting a mesage the project is down. And then up finishes a wu and sends it up. Are teh servers refusing to accept work or is this just on my end?

Server Unreachable or Project Down

Same for everyone I think. I have about 20 uploaded but can`t report, it just says project down then counts back down from 59mins again and again. It should sort itself now its near the end of the S5 run.

Today it seems to simply be

Today it seems to simply be 100% offline. I've been weaning my workstations off of Einstein and on to other projects which are actually running, but I still have a bunch of the short units to report and clear off.

We know (based on previous reports) that it isn't hardware (since the drives, the controller and the server have all been swapped out at least once). That would suggest something in the database may have been well and truly mangled last month during the power outage at Einstein and that problem, along with the significant extra load that the 'end of life' mini-units causes on the server simply has reached a fully diminished returns state.

Sort of sad really, this project had such a solid run for a long time and to see it in wimper mode...

Same here. You should be able to upload completed work, but there is no was to communicate with the server. Have no idea if the work that has been uploaded has be credited as it's impossible to report and what I have sent does not show up on my results pages.

The system ran like clockwork for over a year and in the past couple of weeks they're been hit by one thing after another. My only critisism is that they don't post some sort of message on one of the pages that can be acessed to give participants some idea of the condition of the system and anticipated time until it will likely be back up.

I run einstein and seti on my other 2 systems so if one goes down its not a big deal. On my main system I only run einstein and its a mess allowing seti to get new tasks when you have 30+ WU's banging away non stop trying to reach the server. I finally was able to get seti to send WU's when my cache got down to 4 for einstein.

It would be nice if we got timely information so we could plan on how to distribute our work.

I am truly sick of the down

Message 59616 in response to message 59615

I am truly sick of the down time... I have over 150 tasks that need to be sent in and 1200 points pending. This project is down twice as much as it is up... They really need to post an update on their front page to let us know when the servers will be back up. The admin at least owe us that much.

I just suspend the project. If they can't be bothered to tell us what is going on, then I can't be bothered to work for them, simple as that. The other problem is that boincstats and BAM do not report the site as "down" so the first you know of it is when you see a backlog developing on your machines.

Not good enough Einstein!

I also would like to more of

I also would like to more of what is going on. But I also recognize that the project team is very busy at this point of time. Not only the server is giving problems, but they are also in the middle in the transition to the second run.

Your WUs will no doubt be given credits in the future, the database problems will not take them away. Just be patient.

I only think it's a pity that I don't get new work, since I consider Einstein a great project. But no doubt, the team is doing everything they can to solve all the problems!

There is no need to suspend the project. You can connect to another project to avoid idle time of your computer. If work is available again, BOINC will download it again to your computer.

Bert

What is there to get worked

What is there to get worked up about?

First everyone's having the same issues. S5R1 is nearly done. So there may be a little lag time to get to S5R2.

Second all the end of R1 was small units, which get done a lot quicker and was causing all kinds of problems with the servers. The data gets uploaded and downloaded, just in a less timely manner.

I do not understand why people fret over projects. It's nothing we can do on our side when things are not working correctly on the project side. I just let my machines work, and occasionally make sure they are working and not in some weird loop. Everything else will work itself out.

Science has never been, and will never be perfect. It's the imperfections of science that bring us the new, bigger and better. It HAS to break at some time or another to make it better.

Not good enough Einstein!

I just discovered that due to a misplaced decimal point in preferences, I have in excess of 75 jobs on 4 out of 5 of my machines dated out to Jan 31! Probably the result of all those 15.47 MB files I kept being inudated with. I think I will hold off uploading until we find out what the problem is and when it will be resolved.

Speaking of the problem, surely someone in authority within this project could spare a couple of minutes to post a brief message in this forum regarding the inability to make contact with the server. New users may get a bit impatient and take their crunching power elsewhere, never to return.
