Topic 201222

Hi, I have new GPU - RX480. I use Manjaro linux but crunching of opencl wus doesn't work. BOINC recognizes GPU but all wus exit with computing error (as well as for milkyway@home and poem@home). I have installed amdgpu and mesa and mesa-opencl etc...but it doesn't work at all. So, is it neccessary to wait for amdgpu-pro to be released? Thanks.

I fear that's true. Is it

I fear that's true.

Is it possible to install the proprietary driver?

AMD released (for Linux) only

AMD released (for Linux) only Ubuntu-specific proprietary driver (mentioned amdgpu-pro). Manjaro is Arch-based distro and in the AUR there is rebuilded amdgpu-pro. But Manjaro is not Arch and it has specific hardware recognition a installation system (mhwd) that is not compatible with amdgpu-pro. After some experiments I think problem is that free amdgpu driver doesn't support OpenCL capability higher than 1.1. But it is only my opinion...I'm not an expert :)

OK, I have installed Ubuntu

OK, I have installed Ubuntu 16.04 alongside Manjaro, installed amdgpu-pro into Ubuntu and crunching of OpenCL wus works fine. So, PRO driver is needed. It seems that non-Windows and non-Ubuntu GPU crunchers with Polaris class GPU have to wait for pro driver to be released...
