Hello , i am using a HD 4870 with 12.4 drivers to use it as secondary gpu to crunsh. But there is always a crunshing error (beta) at the beginning, any guesses ?

The HD 4800 range is only

The HD 4800 range is only OpenCL 1.0 compliant, and then only with Beta (driver) support. This project requires that the GPU is OpenCL 1.1 compliant.

So best use the client configuration file to exclude the HD4850 at this project.

Example given, if the HD4850 is seen by BOINC as GPU1:

http://einstein.phys.uwm.edu 1 ATI

Use Notepad to write this file (or copy it into Notepad/Notizpad?).
Filename: cc_config.xml
Save path: Your BOINC data directory, default at C:\Programdata\BOINC\
Save type: All Files
Encoding: ANSI

When saved to the data directory, exit BOINC and restart it. That will exclude GPU1 from being used at this project. Do check the messages (CTRL+SHIFT+E) that it says that this GPU is excluded, else you either made a mistake in the cc_config.xml file, it got a .txt extension or wasn't loaded for another reason.

The only project still supporting AMD HD4xxx hardware is Milkyway AFAIK. I retired my HD4850 this year end of march, until that time it made good work there.

Computer 11456688 displays

Computer 11456688 displays the following:
Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU 6300 @ 1.86GHz [Family 6 Model 15 Stepping 6]
Number of processors 2
Coprocessors [2] CAL AMD Radeon HD 6900 series (Cayman) (1024MB) driver: 1.4.1720
Operating System Microsoft Windows 7
Home Premium x64 Edition, Service Pack 1, (06.01.7601.00)

From the above, and browsing through Task 445555401, GPU HD4870 is being seen as "ATI RV770".

Please see http://einstein.phys.uwm.edu/ News/Gravitational Wave search GPU App version/3rd paragraph;
- Least likely -> perhaps there is a conflict between AMD Catalyst driver 12.4 and your GPU cards: it is OK for the HD6900 (Cayman) but not for the HD4870. Latest STABLE driver for HD6XXX is 14.4 and 13.9 for the HD4XXX.

It is up to you to decide your next step. Remember to make a HD image of your partition, with any of the available freeware (Paragon, Easeus, etc.), BEFORE any attempt to experiment with drivers. Also, don't forget to uninstall the present driver BEFORE installing the new one. You may also want to let the HD4870 as the only GPU card for testing purposes.
