Am I a Nerd? A Geek? Who knows. I have more computers than I need and still want more, bigger, better faster ones. I started dabbling with them when 64kB was all you got and I've never looked back (for those of you old enough to remember... my first computer was a Commodore 64).
I always wanted to do something with computers, perhaps as a computer programmer, but didn't quite make it. I have worked as a web designer, hand coding webpages (including that of BOINC@AUSTRALIA, the most successful Australian team) with a little ASP/VBScript and Javascript thrown in sometimes. That's probably the closest I will ever get to being a programmer :-)
Oh and as none of you would have guessed... I am into sci-fi movies. Most of my favourite TV shows and movies have "Star" in the title somewhere. Star Wars (of course), Star Trek, Stargate, Battle Beyond the Stars, Battlestar Galactica, The Last Starfighter and so on.
Since most of my favourite movies have something to do with stars and planets, this project fits right in. It was one of the first projects I participated in and where I did most work last year.
I gave it a rest when I got to about 75,000 credits with the old applications and came back when Akos had worked his magic.
I put Einstein on the backburner again when S5 started - I got used to work units taking only a few hours and S5 work just took too long for my liking. Plus there's the issue of work sitting in "pending" for a long time because of rogue hosts.
Right now, I'm running Einstein on a couple of quads, which take approx. 4 hours per work unit (in 64bit Ubuntu Hardy). Not too shabby
