Sometime back in 2000 while searching for screensavers, I discovered Distributed Computing.
My fascination with screensavers has pretty much subsided since then (except for the occassional holiday one), but my love for Volunteer Computing continues to grow.
Most recently, I had served as the first Host for the Folding@Home team over at CastleCops, where the team rose from the depths to 116th place as of this writing. My attempt to start a BOINC team there fell way short of this success, and the teams have been transfered to the site owners.
After having been involved with several "cancer" projects, my true interest lies with Climate Prediction for several reasons, not the least of which is that this is something that affects all living organisms on the planet, not just the unlucky few. Unlike Cancer treatment, solving and understanding the nuances of Climate is not dogged by rumours of a cure already in existence, withheld for a variety of reasons, not the least of which is profit.
To continue to ignore the dangers of abusing the environment, will have the consequence of having to pay severe penalties in the future to offset the greed and carelessness of the present and the past. Individually, we may barely notice, but your children and grandchildren will.
