Gary,

please post THESE in the NEWS Public Region of EAH !

Thanks Urban

And how do you propose that I do that? I'm an ordinary user just like you. I have as much ability to modify the main page as you do.

Please try reading a bit so you can understand some of the problems. Try Bernd's sticky thread at the top of Cruncher's Corner. This post, in particular, explains the delay in updating the main page. Read all Bernd's other posts in that thread and you might start to get some sympathy for the very few people who are trying to cope with all the issues.

Cheers,
Gary.

RE: How hard is it for some

Message 59662 in response to message 59656

How hard is it for some one to post:

As of X date the project is down.

Why would that be of any more help to you than this, for example:-

Quote:

2007-01-18 15:14:07 [Einstein@Home] Sending scheduler request to http://einstein.phys.uwm.edu/EinsteinAtHome_cgi/cgi
2007-01-18 15:14:07 [Einstein@Home] Reason: To report completed tasks
2007-01-18 15:14:07 [Einstein@Home] Requesting 153543 seconds of new work, and reporting 67 completed tasks
2007-01-18 15:14:17 [Einstein@Home] Scheduler request succeeded
2007-01-18 15:14:17 [Einstein@Home] Message from server: Project is temporarily shut down for maintenance
2007-01-18 15:14:17 [Einstein@Home] Project is down

You get both the precise time and date and a detailed description of not only the fact that the project is down but enough information to know pretty much what the problem is, taking all other circumstances into account.

  • *A host tries to make a routine contact with the scheduling server
*The reasons for that contact attempt are clearly listed
*The contact with the Scheduler is successful - the server is alive
*However the server cannot deal with your request at the moment (ie it's overloaded)
*A description is given to you to best describe the problem - ie even though the server is not down, it's tantamount to being down anyway - just like it was in maintenance mode.

How would a one-liner in the news section of the main page give you any better description of the problem?

How could the (probably) single person - David Hammer - trying to deal with the crisis be able to give you any more information without writing several paragraphs? And an hour later as people clamour for further updates, he'd have to do it all again and again.

I think I'd rather take the quite sufficient automated message and let David get on with the job.

Cheers,
Gary.

*Values of variables such as short_term_debt, long_term_debt, on_frac, connected_frac, active_frac, duration_correction_factor, and probably a few others that I've forgotten about at the moment :). All these can be examined in your state file "client_state.xml".

big snip

If the values of the requested variables are buried in here somewhere, do you have any suggestions as to how I might be able to work out which is which?

Some variables are per project, eg STD, LTD, DCF, etc (so you would need three of each with each one clearly labelled) whilst some are global, like on_frac, connected_frac, etc. A DCF and an on_frac could have similar values so without clear labelling, how is anyone to know which is which?

Please fill in the following template and I'll try guessing the rest

Global values:
on_frac =
active_frac =

EAH project values:
STD =
LTD =

Seti project values:
STD =
LTD =

WCG project values:
STD =
LTD =

Also, as per Pooh Bear's suggestion for MAC OS people (I know nothing about MACs) is it just a simple matter of a new app_info.xml file???

Cheers,
Gary.

Message 59664 in response to message 59663

First, many thanks for your assistance. I apologize for seeming a bit of an idiot here.

Second, I simply cut and pasted what was in my client_state.xml file precisely as it appeared there. I searched for the data you requested, but I couldn't find anything that was labeled STD, LTD, etc. so I just pasted what was there.

I'm at a loss here.

Show-Off!! :).

Anyway, the answer to his problem is over in the MacOS thread. Apparently he has an intel cpu but he has installed the PowerPC app. This probably wont work too well :).

Cheers,
Gary.

It appears that you were using a browser or another app that tries to parse the XML, displaying the data but not the tags that describe them. Use an ordinary text-editor (e.g. TextEdit) next time: you’ll find it much easier to see what’s what.

I might note that I didn't install this app until I read THIS post. Okay, so I will kill the PowerPC app installation.

That puts me back at square 1 (I guess I was at square 0 before). Knowing the stats on my set up (see above). What do I need to do to correct this problem?
